WALTER L LANDRUM

Dr. W.L. Landrum
Born:  19 Sep 1877 / Alabama, USA
Died:  27 Jul 1914 / Bartow County, GA, USA
Burial:  Cave Spring Cemetery / Lavender, Floyd County, GA, USA

Shot by prominent farmer Weston H. Jones and brother-in-law Watt Tinsley on the morning of July 27, 1914 as Dr. Landrum and brother-in-law Mr. Cothran were passing by the home of Mr. Jones to visit patients.  Dr. Landrum was the driver and sustained injuries from both shooters who used shot guns loaded with buckshot.  The incident occurred about two miles from Taylorsville.

Dr. Landrum was shot in the head, arm and body.  Mr. Cothran was only hit once with a shot that lodged in the muscle of his shoulder and proved to be a flesh wound.  Dr. Landrum died on the scene in his automobile.

It was reported the doctor made threats against Jones and his wife.  Jones and Tinsley were on there way to be delivered to the sheriff in Cartersville when they were met by Mr. Caloway who took them assisted by one bailiff.

Landrum was a well known physician known for his aggressive nature which made him many enemies.

Mr. Jones was a prominent farmer in the Taylorsville district above 60 years of age, well spoken of with considerable friends and connections.  Mrs. Weston Jones and Watt Tinsley are the half-sister and half-brother of Cartersville’s well known citizen and former sheriff, T. Warren Tinsley, and a host of friends of this citizen deeply sympathize with him.
