RITES MONDAY FOR CLYDE M. ALLEN, ACCIDENT VICTIM
Clyde Maynor Allen, 18, of the Burnett Ferry Rd., Rome Rte.
5, was fatally injured Friday in a truck accident near Summerville.
Allen was riding on a truck hauling pulpwood, and when the
brakes gave way, he jumped from the vehicle, striking his head on a log and
causing instant death.
He was born in Rome, May 19, 1941, son of Nellie Ratlidge
and Frank E. Allen and had spent his entire life here. He attended the Coosa School and was employed
by J.C. McCord Trucking Co.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Allen, of
Cartersville Rte. 1; two brothers, Frank S. and Emmett R. Allen of Rome Rte. 5;
six sisters, Mrs. James Bridges, Cartersville Rte. 1, Mrs. Virginia Ingle,
Washington, D.C., Misses Martha Lou, Barbara Ann Bobbeth and Katie Nell Allen,
all of Cartersville Rte. 1; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Ratlidge of Atlanta
and his great-grandfather R.R. Sanders, Rome Rte. 5 A number of aunts and
uncles also survive including Mr. and Mrs. Dan Owens, with whom he had resided.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m Monday at the Floyd
Springs Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. A.C. Davis and the Rev. W.F.
Conn officiating. Interment was in Floyd
Springs cemetery.
Pallbearers included J.C. McCord, J. Floyd Matthews, Lewis
McCraw Jr., Vernon Lamber, Cecil Pollard, Glenn and Bill Shelton and Paul Allen
Osborn.
