JAMES R DUNCAN SUCCUMBS MONDAY IN CALHOUN

James Riley Duncan died Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alton Holcomb, at 127 Belmont Dr., Calhoun.

Mr. Duncan was born June 3, 1876, the son of the late W.G. Duncan.  He was a member of the Blackwood Baptist Church.

He was a prominent farmer in the Oothcaloga Valley community until health forced his retirement.  His wife, the former Emma Teague, preceded him in death 14 years ago.

Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. George McWilliams, Adairsville; Mrs. Bradley McEntrye, Mrs. Alton Holcomb, Mrs. Rayford Hall, all of Calhoun; Mrs. Clay Moore, Rte. 1, Adairsville; two sisters, Mrs. Monroe Brown, Calhoun; Mrs. Will Callahan, Rainesville, Ala.; a brother, Gus Duncan, Dutton, Ala.; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Blackwood Baptist Church.  The Rev Ralph Brown, the Rev. Bryant Leverette, and the Rev. Howard Holcomb officiated at the last rites.

Serving as pallbearers were Hoyle Duncan, Thurman Duncan, Howard Kinnamon, Howard Johnson, Charlie King, and J.T. King.  Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Fox, Clinton Fox, Columbus Dellinger, Jim Fuller, Farris Shepherd, L.D. Shaw, Hershel Greeson, T.B. Tolcomb, Marshall Gilreath, Colie Stone, Gene Bragg, Clay Stephens, Howard Wables, Sam Causby and I.C. Rickett.

Interment was in the Blackwood Cemetery under the direction of the Barton Funeral home.
